I HAVE a laugh when I see people complaining that they are not called “sir” or “madam” or whatever when they go shopping.
They don’t like to be called “mate”.
Now this is Australia and this is Mandurah and if I get called by my first name or “mate” I don’t really care.
If I go out for a meal and the service has been good and the food excellent I always thank the staff. If they have a name tag I address them by that as I express my gratitude.
Mandurah is still one of the nicest and friendliest places to shop. In my 20 years of living here I have never had a problem.
What we must always remember is friendly attitude is a two-way thing and if you do not come across as a happy person then that’s how it may all play out for you.
As I write I have just returned from our local hardware store and I went in to buy some stoppers for the legs of a stool I had just altered.
The woman who served me was brilliant and between us we worked out what I wanted, which was difficult.
We recently went to Perth by train and had lunch at a small cafe. As the owner walked past I thanked him for the sandwich and the coffee.
He was amazed as he told me people in Perth rarely speak and if they do it’s always to complain.
Mandurah, you are tops. And I don’t care what people call me as long as it’s never late for a meal.
