FINDING so much inspiration in the people and places around her leaves Mt Helena artist Pauline Gill with too much to capture and too little time.
Watercolours and other artwork by Gill is on show at Guildford Village Potters until March 10.
“I am inspired by landscape and places of water with their accompanying boats and birds,” she said.
“I am also fascinated by the human form and like incorporating people into my work.
“Painting is a journey in progress. There is always so much to paint and draw and not enough time to do it.”
Gill, originally from Victoria, is a member of the Watercolour Society of WA and her work is represented in private collections in Australia and overseas.
She prefers capturing landscapes but her subjects are wide-ranging, and include everything that she finds beautiful.
Gill studied a four-year ceramics course at Midland Tafe while working as an art teacher, which is how she became involved with Guildford Village Potters.
“I was able to develop my skills and creativity with the help of like minds in such a supportive group,” she said.
“I am still a painter and try to balance my creative energy in both directions but I find that one complements the other.”
Gill’s focus on watercolours came in 1993 when she attended classes while living in Canada.
“My previous training had been in oils and these classes really opened my eyes to the joys and wonders of the watercolour medium,” she said.
“I was hooked.”
Gill’s ceramic work is in porcelain, stoneware and Raku.
“My present focus is with bird forms for which I won the Darlington Arts Festival ceramic prize in 2004 and 2006.”
Guildford Village Potters, in Meadow Street, Guildford, is open on weekdays from 9.30am to 3pm and on weekends and public holidays from 10am to 4.30pm.
